Golden Axed is a promotional freeware beat 'em up video game made available for a limited time on 17 October, 2020 through the Steam store to commemorate Sega's 60 years.
The game has since been removed from the Steam store, meaning it can no longer be downloaded. Players who kept have the title listed in their library can still download it even after uninstalling.

A reboot of Golden Axe entitled Golden Axe Reborn was originally in development by SEGA Studios Australia early in the 2010s as part of the SEGA Reborn series of remakes (this series also included reboots for Altered Beast and Streets of Rage). However, SEGA Studios Australia was shut down in 2013, and thus the project was cancelled. During the celebration of Sega's 60th anniversary, a working prototype of this remake, dubbed Golden Axed, became available for free on Steam on October 2020 for one day.
The actual game is rather barebones, consisting of a single level which was created as proof-of-concept. The player controls Ax Battler, with only a single enemy type appearing during said level.
